Kyra Fukumoto made it on to the podium yesterday, October 6, 2016, at the Central Pacific Regional Figure Skating Championships. She placed 3rd in the Open Juvenile competition. Kyra skated against 7 other girls. According to her mom, Shari, “We are pleased with the results.”
There are 9 Regional Figure Skating Championships held each year. Regionals are the stepping stones to the 3 Sectional Figure Skating Championships. Sectionals, in turn, lead to the US Figu
re Skating Championship where the US champions are determined each year. From there, the winners go on to competing in Worlds or at the Olympics. Kyra did not compete in a qualifying event so she will not be going to Sectionals but she had quite a learning experience.
