Skater of the Month: October 2016

nicoleNicole Kiyonaga

Hi everyone!   Thank you for choosing me for the Skater of the Month.  My name is Nicole Kiyonaga and I am 12 years old and live in Waianae, Hawaii.  I currently go to Moanalua Middle School and play the Viola in the school orchestra.  My interest for skating started when my sister decided that she wanted to celebrate her 8th birthday at the Ice Palace.  After that day, I found my passion for skating and started skating lessons when I was 9 years old. I have now been skating for a total of 2nicole-2 ½ years.

One of my more memorable moments is when I was selected to participate in the opening number for the Golden Moments show in November 2015.  It was an awesome experience because I got to see firsthand what it looks like when Olympic Level Skaters perform.  Something I will always remember was when the Olympic Skaters took the time to encourage us right before we went out on the ice and they all “high fived” us.

Recently I am proud to have accomplished passing Pre-Preliminary Moves, Preliminary Moves, Pre-Juvenile Moves and Pre-Preliminary Free Skate and am skating in the Free Style 6 level.  Currently I am working with Coach Kahiapo Tavares on landing my doubles.  My goal is to land all my doubles, pass my juvenile moves test and pass my preliminary free skate by the end of this year

Some of my favorite skating moves are my sit spin, axel, loop jump and my lutz. My favorite skaters are Gracie Gold, Ashley Wagner, Evgenia  Medvedeva, Yulia Lipnitskaya and Kyra Fukumoto.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know me.  Can’t wait to see you on the ice!!
