Skater of the Month: June 2014

DSC_0003Hi Everyone and thanks for choosing me as skater of the month! My name is Emily Heydon, and I am 17 years old and currently in 11th grade.  I am the oldest of 4 siblings in a military family and have lived in many different places, including California, Connecticut, and Washington State. I have lived in Hawaii for the past 4 years. I began figure skating 3 years ago when I started taking group lessons at the Ice Palace. I absolutely love the sport and want to give special thanks to my coaches, Miss Jean, Mr. Brock, and Miss Jennifer.

I am currently in FS4 and working on Pre-Juvenile moves. My favorite elements include my sit spin and my lutz. I have been a member of the advanced artistry team since last summer. I enjoy skating as a part of a team and hope to pursue synchronized skating in college. I have always liked performing, and one of my favorite aspects of skating is having the opportunity to participate in shows.

In my spare time, I enjoy running, public speaking, and playing the piano. I love animals and volunteer in the primate department at the Honolulu Zoo. I have had many interesting pets over the years: dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, mice, frogs, and chickens. I have been a member of 4-H since I was 5 and have often shown my rabbits in fairs. I am planning to earn a biology degree in college and to work as either a vet or a wildlife biologist.
